Exclude (blacklist) customers and product collections from loyalty in Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS

By default, all customers and product categories are enrolled in your loyalty program.
However, you have the option to blacklist (exclude) specific customers and/or products. Blacklisting customers allows you to exclude particular customer groups such as employees, suppliers, and other types from your loyalty program. Similarly, blacklisting product categories enables you to exclude certain products from your loyalty program, preventing customers from earning points for purchasing these items.

Exclude (blacklist) customers from loyalty in Lightspeed Retail (R-Series)

Before you get started with blacklisting customers from loyalty

Here are some key details to note before getting started with blacklisting product customers in Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS:

  • By default, all customers can earn points for purchasing any product from any category.

  • Marsello uses Lightspeed (R-Series) POS, Customer Types for Customer Blacklisting.

  • Blacklisted customers are removed from loyalty only. Blacklisted customers are still eligible to receive email marketing. If you already have a customer type that you would like to exclude, please skip ahead to the next section


Create a customer group to exclude in Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS

1. In your Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) admin, go to Customers, and click Customer Types

In the Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) admin, the user navigates to the Customers section and clicks on Customer Types to manage or view customer categories.

2. On the Customer Types page, select +New Customer Type

On the Customer Types page in Lightspeed Retail, the user selects the + New Customer Type button to create a new customer category.

3. Name your group, then click Save Changes. Your customer type will now be created in your Lightspeed account.

The user enters a name for the new customer group and clicks Save Changes. The new customer type is then created and added to the Lightspeed account.

4. In the Customers navigation, Click Customers to return to your customer list.

5. Search for the customer you wish to edit by name or email and click on the customer you wish to edit.

6. From the type drop-down menu, select your new customer type.

From the Type drop-down menu, the user selects the newly created customer type to assign it.

7. Click Save Changes to assign that customer to the type. Repeat this for all of the customers that you would like to exclude from your loyalty program.


How to exclude the customer group from loyalty

1. In your Marsello app admin, go to Settings > Loyalty > Points program

2. Under Order Rewarding, go to Exclude customers that are tagged with one of:

3. Click to open the drop-down, then click customer type which should be excluded.

In the Marsello app admin, the user navigates to Settings > Loyalty > Points Program. Under Order Rewarding, they locate Exclude customers that are tagged with one of:. The user clicks the drop-down menu and selects the customer types to exclude from earning loyalty points.

4. Click Save. Now, customers in this Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS customer type will be excluded from your loyalty program. They will not earn points when they make a purchase in-store.

📝Note: If you want to add the customer back into your loyalty program in the future, just remove them from the excluded customer group in Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS.


How it works – Your customers' experience

If a blacklisted customer makes a purchase, the customer will not earn points for that order.

Here are some key details to note before getting started with blacklisting product collections in Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS:

  • By default, your customers can earn points for purchasing any product from any category.

  • Marsello uses Lightspeed (R-Series)'s, Product Collection Name for Blacklisting.

How to exclude product collections from loyalty

1. In your Marsello admin, go to your Loyalty tab and select Settings > Loyalty > Points program

2. On this page, scroll down to your store's Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS Order Rewarding setting. Go to Do not reward points on products that belong to one of these categories:

3. Click to open the drop-down and select the Product Collection Name(s) that you would like to exclude from your loyalty program.

In the Marsello admin, the user goes to the Loyalty tab and selects Settings > Loyalty > Points Program. They scroll down to the Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) POS Order Rewarding section. Under Do not reward points on products that belong to one of these categories, the user clicks the drop-down menu and selects the product collection names to exclude from earning loyalty points.

📝Note: If you have just added the product to the product collection, it can take 10 minutes to sync into Marsello settings. You can also exclude as many Lightspeed Products from your loyalty program as needed.

4. Click Save

How it works – Your customers' experience

If the customer's purchase includes a product that is in the blacklisted category, the customer will not earn points for that particular product.

In your Marsello admin, under the customer's profile, this will show as a line item in the points calculation.

📝Note: If the customer has other products that are not a part of the blacklisted collection, the customer can still earn points for those products.
