How do customers join my Marsello database?

Learn more about how your customers sync into Marsello and how they can sign up to receive your marketing.

Customers can join your Marsello database by signing up through your POS and/or eCommerce platform or through one of Marsello's acquisition features. When the customer is added to your Marsello database they are automatically added to your loyalty program. If the customer accepts email marketing, they'll also be included as an email subscriber.

๐Ÿ“ Note: When you install Marsello, your POS and/or eCommerce customer database is automatically synced into Marsello customer database. This will sync the customer's name, email address, email marketing preferences, and any historical order data.

How customers join through your POS or eCommerce site

Making a purchase in-store

When a new customer makes a purchase in-store, your staff will ask if they'd like to join your loyalty program and receive your email marketing.

If the customer agrees to leave their information, the staff member will enter their name and email address and update their email marketing preferences to ON. The customer will be automatically added to your POS database and your Marsello customer database.

๐Ÿ“ Note: If the customer doesn't want to receive email marketing, the staff member will set their email marketing preferences to reflect the customer's wishes.

Making a purchase online

When a new customer makes a purchase online, they can choose to create a store account or checkout as a guest:

  • When the customer creates an account, they enter their name and email address and indicate their email marketing preferences. The customer will be automatically added to your eCommerce database and your Marsello customer database, even if they don't accept email marketing.

  • When the customer checks out as a guest, they enter their email address and indicate their email marketing preferences. The customer will be automatically added to your eCommerce database as a guest and your Marsello customer database.

Creating a store account (Online only)

When a visitor creates an account on your online store, they are automatically added to your eCommerce database and your Marsello customer database.

How customers join through Marsello

Referral Program

1. When a customer refers their friend to your store, the friend can join your Marsello database through the referral sign-up link.

2. The friend enters their name and email address and clicks the submit call-to-action button.

3. By entering their details and clicking submit, they are also opting in to receive your email marketing. Once submitted, this will automatically add them to your Marsello database and on your POS and/or eCommerce customer database.

Forms

1. A visitor can join your Marsello database through a landing page or pop-up sign-up form.

2. The visitor enters their name and email address and clicks the submit call-to-action button.

3. By entering their details and clicking submit, they are also opting in to receive your email marketing. Once submitted, this will automatically add them to your Marsello database and on your POS and/or eCommerce customer database.

๐Ÿ“ Note: Sign-up Forms and the Referral Program will create the visitor/friend as a Guest customer on eCommerce platforms. This will not create the customer a store account online because the customer needs to create a unique password.

How it works - Your customers' experience by Integration

Lightspeed Retail X-Series (formerly Vend)

To add a new customer to your Marsello customer database, all you need to do is add the customer to the sale in Vend.

1. Add the customer's products that they want to buy to the sale.

2. Click Add a customer

3. Start typing the customer's name, then click + Add a new customer

4. Add your new customer's First Name, Last Name, Email Address, and Mobile Number*

๐Ÿ“ Note: Only First Name, Last Name, and Email address are required information for your customers to be added to your Marsello customer database.

  • The mobile number is optional. Should you choose to collect mobile numbers, ensure the country code is included and no other formatting such as spaces, brackets, or hyphens.

  • You can also collect the customer's birthday by clicking Show more fields and entering their date-of-birth.

Update the customer's accepts marketing preference in Lightspeed Retail X-Series

When a new customer makes a purchase in-store, the staff member will ask if they would like to create a store account. It is very important that during this process, the staff member asks the customer if they want to receive marketing sent via email and SMS.
โ€‹By default, customers do not accept marketing, they need to opt-in to be able to receive marketing sent via Marsello.

5. Under Contact Information, next to Opt-In to Receive Marketing and Promotional Emails you can easily opt-in your customer in to receive marketing or not.

  • If they accept marketing via email and SMS, toggle Opt-In to Receive Marketing and Promotional Emails to ON. The customer's accepts marketing preference will then be synced into their Marsello profile, and they will be eligible to receive email and SMS marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

  • If they don't accept marketing via email and SMS, please ensure the Opt-In to Receive Marketing and Promotional Emails toggle remains OFF. This customer will not receive email or SMS marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

6. Click Create New Customer and the customer will then be added to the sale

7. Complete the sale

The customer will be automatically added to your Marsello customer database, including their details, accepts marketing preference, and sales data.

Lightspeed Restaurant O-Series POS

1. Add the customer's products that they want to buy to the sale.

2. Tap Add Customer

3. Tap New customer

4. Enter the customer's First Name, Last Name, and Email Address.

6. Click More Details to update the customer's accepts marketing preference

  • If they accept marketing via email and SMS, select the Customer accepts comms and marketing material checkbox to ticked. The customer's accepts marketing preference will then be synced into their Marsello profile, and they will be eligible to receive email and SMS marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

  • If they don't accept marketing via email and SMS, please ensure the Customer accepts comms and marketing material checkbox remains un-ticked.
    โ€‹This customer will not receive email or SMS marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

7. Tap Save. The customer will then be added to the sale.

8. Complete the sale

The customer will be automatically added to your Marsello customer database, including their details, accepts marketing preference, and sales data.

Cin7 Omni POS

1. Add the customer's products that they want to buy to the sale.

2. In the Cin7 Customers section, click New

3. Under the New Customer page, scroll to Contact Details

4. Add your new customer's First Name, Last Name, Email Address, and Mobile Number*

6. At the top of the New Customer page, next the Save and Enter to POS button, you can easily opt-in your customer in to receive marketing or not.

  • If they accept marketing via email and SMS, toggle Accepts Marketing? to ON.
    The customer's accepts marketing preference will then be synced into their Marsello profile, and they will be eligible to receive email and SMS marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

  • If they don't accept marketing via email and SMS, please ensure the Accepts Marketing toggle remains OFF.
    This customer will not receive email or SMS marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

7. Click Save & Enter to POS, the customer will then be added to the sale

8. Complete the sale

The customer will be automatically added to your Marsello customer database, including their details, accepts marketing preference, and sales data.

Shopify POS

1. Add the customer's products that they want to buy to the sale.

2. Tap Add customer.

3. Tap the Add new customer button to create a new customer.

4. Add your new customer's First Name, Last Name, Email Address, and Mobile Number*

    The customer's accepts marketing preference will then be synced into their Marsello profile, and they will be eligible to receive email marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

  • If they don't accept marketing via email, please ensure the Accepts Marketing toggle remains OFF. โ€‹This customer will not receive email marketing from your store sent via Marsello.

7. Tap Save. The customer will then be added to the sale.

โš ๏ธImportant: If your store has multiple sales platforms enabled in Marsello and customers wish to receive marketing across each platform, be sure to update your email compliance settings in Marsello. To do this in your app admin, go to Settings > Email marketing > Compliance and under Marketing opt-in details, and enable the toggle button next to only send marketing messages to customers who accept marketing at all connected integrations
