Blacklisting allows you to control who can earn loyalty points and which products qualify for rewards in your Marsello loyalty program. You can exclude certain products and collections you donβt want contributing to point earnings.
By default, all customers and all products are eligible to earn points. This guide explains how to blacklist product tags and product collections using Shopify and Marsello.
How do I exclude (blacklist) products with a specific product tag from my loyalty program with Shopify?

Product tag blacklisting allows you to exclude specific products from your loyalty program so customers wonβt earn points for purchasing those items.
By default, all products are eligible to earn loyalty points.
Create a product tag in Shopify
1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Products
ββ2. Select the product(s) you would like to exclude
3. Scroll to the bottom of your product list and click on the three dots next to Bulk Edit, then click Add Tags
4. Name your tag, e.g. Loyalty Blacklist, then click Save
Your product tag will now be created in your Shopify account.

How to exclude specific products with a product tag from loyalty
1. In your Marsello admin, go to Settings > Loyalty > Points Promotion
2. Under Shopify Order Rewarding, go to "Do not reward points on products that are tagged with one of:" and click to open the drop-down, then click the Product Tag(s) that you would like to exclude from your loyalty program
π Note: If you have just added the product tag, it can take 15 minutes to sync into Marsello settings. You can exclude as many Shopify Product Tags from your loyalty program as needed.
β3. Click Save. βAll products with that Shopify product tag will now be excluded from your loyalty program.
π Note: If you want to add the product back into your loyalty program in the future, just remove the tag from the product in Shopify.
How it works β Your customers' experience
If the customer's purchase includes a product that is in the blacklisted product list the customer will not earn points for that particular product.
In your Marsello admin, under the customer's profile, this will show as a line item in the points calculation.
π Note: If the customer has other products that are not a part of the blacklisted products, the customer can still earn points for those products.
How do I exclude (blacklist) product collections from your loyalty program with Shopify?

Blacklisting a product collection prevents customers from earning points on any product within that collection.
By default, all products in all collections are eligible to earn loyalty points.
Marsello uses Shopify Collection IDs to manage collection-level blacklisting.
How to find a Product Collection ID in Shopify
1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Products > Collections and click on the collection you would like to exclude.
2. In the URL of your Collection, copy the ending set of numbers
This is your Collection's unique ID code. Please save this for the next step.
Repeat this for all of the Product Collections that you would like to exclude from your loyalty program.
How to exclude product collections from your loyalty program
1. In your Marsello admin, go to Settings> Loyalty > Points Program
2. Staying on the Loyalty Settings page, scroll down to the Shopify section and look for the field Do not reward points on products that belong to one of these collections (Collection IDs):
ββ3. Enter your Collection ID (9-digit number) in the text box, and click Add. (As you are typing in the numbers for your collection ID, the collection name will appear in the drop-down menu.)
π Note: If you have just added the product to the product collection, it can take 15 minutes to sync into Marsello settings. You can exclude as many Product Collections from your loyalty program as needed. Simply add in each Collection ID one at a time separated by commas).
β4. Click Save. βAll products in that Product Collection in Shopify will now be excluded from your loyalty program.
For example, you can create a collection specifically for full-priced items and exclude only those products from loyalty rewards.
π Note: Marsello doesn't currently support Smart (Automated) Collections. If you are looking to create a collection that works in a similar fashion and syncs to Marsello, we recommend taking the following steps on your Shopify admin:
1. Go to Product > Collection > Create Collectionβ

2. Set the Collection type to "Manual"
3. Create a product tag specific to this collection in Shopify. Then, manually tag each product for this collection.
4. From your Marsello admin, go to Order Rewarding Settings and select the tag from the drop-down menu of the field called "Do not reward points on products that are tagged with one of these collections:"
