How do I customize the Welcome automation?

Marsello’s Welcome automation lets you automatically send a personalized welcome email to new customers—complete with timing controls, segmentation, and optional discounts—so you can engage customers from day one without manual work.


What is Marsello's Welcome automation?

Marsello's Welcome automation sends an email when a customer first signs up or meets a defined condition. It’s an easy way to:

  • welcome new customers

  • share key information about your brand or loyalty program

  • incentivize a first or repeat purchase with a discount

How do I customize the welcome automation for new signups?

Step 1: Open the Welcome automation

1. In the Marsello admin, go to Marketing > Automation

he Marsello admin dashboard is open. A left-side menu shows different options. The Marketing section is selected, and Automation is clicked to open the automation page.

2. Use the search bar to search for Welcome.

The Automation page is open with a search box at the top. The word “Welcome” is typed into the search field to locate the Welcome newsletter signup automation.

3. Locate the Welcome newsletter signup automation and click Edit.

The Welcome newsletter signup automation is shown in the list. An Edit button is visible and is clicked to open the automation for customization.

Step 2: Customize the trigger settings

4. From the automation's workflow, click on the cog icon next to Trigger to open the Trigger settings.

The automation workflow is shown on the screen. Next to the Trigger step, there is a small cog icon. The cog icon is clicked to open the Trigger settings.

From here, you can update:

  • Automation name: Enter/update your automation name
    This automation name is internal only and is to help you identify your automation in the Automation admin.

  • Trigger – When a customer is created: You can choose to send to all customers who meet this trigger, choose to send to selected segment(s), or create a new segment. The customer can sign up for your marketing via the POS order, eCommerce order, or a form.

  • Exit condition: Exit conditions determine when the customer leaves the automation flow. Select When a customer makes an order or completes the automation flow.

The automation workflow is open with the Trigger settings panel visible. The Automation name field is shown for internal use. The When a customer is created trigger is selected, with options to send to all customers, selected segments, or a new segment. Signup sources include POS orders, eCommerce orders, or forms. An Exit condition option is shown, allowing customers to exit when they make an order or when the automation flow is complete.

💡Optional step: Add a delay

Add a delay from when the customer enters the flow to when your first email will be sent. To update your automation's delay settings:

1. Click the pencil icon to open the Delay settings.

2. Select how much time to wait before the next email in the flow will be sent and select Save changes

The Delay settings panel is open. Time options are shown to choose how long to wait before the next email is sent. A Save changes button is visible and selected to apply the delay.

3. Click Save changes.


Step 3: Customize your welcome email design

5. Click the pencil icon to start customizing the email in your automated flow.

The automation workflow is displayed. Next to the email step, a pencil icon is visible. The pencil icon is clicked to open the email editor and start customizing the email design.

6. Use the drag-and-drop editor to customize your email:

  • Add, remove, or rearrange content blocks

  • Update text, images, buttons, and layout

  • Match the design to your brand and message

  • Adjust layout, text, images, and buttons

  • Use AI assistance to help generate or improve content


Step 4: Review or update the discount block

7. By default, your welcome email includes a preset discount block.

  • If you want to keep the discount:

    • Update the text block to explain the discount to customers.

  • If you want to change the discount:

    • Remove the existing discount block, then add a new discount block to the email.

⚠️ Important: The types of rewards you can create depend on the POS or eCommerce platform connected to your account.


Step 5: Save and enable your automation

8. Click Save and Return after editing the email.

9. Click Save and Return again from the automation workflow.

10. Enable the automation when you’re ready to start sending emails.


Your customers' experience

When a customer receives the welcome email:

  • The discount appears under the Discount button

  • Customers can click through to claim their unique discount code

  • The discount expiry period begins once the email is received

📝 Note: The discount code is created in your WooCommerce integration when the customer clicks claim, ready for the customer to use on their next purchase.

Once the customer has received the email, the expiry period on the discount will begin.
