Why use Multi-Factor Authentication to secure your Marsello account

In today’s digital landscape, securing customer data and brand accounts is more critical than ever. That’s why Marsello now offers built-in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), a simple yet powerful way to protect your account by requiring both a password and a verification code from an authenticator app at login. Seamlessly integrated and easy to activate, Marsello’s MFA provides enterprise-grade protection for businesses of all sizes. This simple step significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if your password is compromised, helping to keep your brand and customer data safe

Before you get started:

  • This feature is currently in Closed Beta: If you'd like to join the Closed Beta, please contact our Marsello support team.

  • Are you the 'Account Owner' of your account?
    To enable MFA on your Marsello account, you must have the Account Owner permission level. If not, you'll need to contact the Account Owner to enable this feature.

  • How do you currently log in to Marsello?

    • Via marsello.com:
      We recommend enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help protect your account.

    • Via Shopify or BigCommerce:
      If you’re the only user on your Marsello account, you can continue logging in this way without needing to enable MFA.
      However, if you have multiple users on your account, we recommend enabling MFA for any users who log in via marsello.com to help keep your account secure.

  • Review users who have access to your Marsello account
    Before enabling MFA, it's a great time to review the users who have access to your Marsello account. We recommend removing any users who no longer require access to help keep your account secure.


How to enable MFA on your Marsello account

Below are the steps the Account Owner (permission level) will follow to enable MFA on your Marsello account and update their own login to use Multi-Factor Authentication.

How to enable MFA

1. In your Marsello dashboard, go to Settings > Account > Users

2. Under the Secure user login section, Click Enable multi-factor authentication.

⚠️ Important:
Once MFA is enabled on a Marsello account, it cannot be removed. This is a security measure to help protect your account and customer data. MFA will be required for all users on your Marsello account, both now and in the future.


3. In the confirmation pop-up, click Enable Multi-Factor Authentication to continue.

⚠️ Important:

  • You will be logged out of your Marsello account to complete the next part of the process.

  • You will also receive an email with a link to continue setup.

  • Any users on your Marsello account will also receive an email to set up their new MFA log in to your account.

How to set-up your new log in

4. Open your email inbox

5. Log in to your Marsello account using your current login credentials

6. Click the link to reset your Marsello password

7. Click the link to download or open your authenticator app (Auth app).

8. Scan the QR code using your authenticator app.

Check that your authenticator app is generating codes (also called one-time passwords, PINs, verification codes, etc.)
9. Enter your one-time code in your Marsello log in step

10. When ready, click Continue in Marsello.

11. Enter the authenticator code from your app.

12. Click Continue.

If set up correctly, you’ll continue to the Marsello admin

  • If not, you’ll see a “The code you entered is invalid” message.

    1. First, check if the code expired in your authenticator app. If so, copy the new code and try 1 more time.

    2. If the code you entered is still valid or retrying the code doesn’t work, please contact Marsello support


Logging in to your Marsello account with MFA (going forward)

  1. On the Marsello login screen, enter your email address.

  2. Next, enter your password and click Continue.

  3. Open your authentication app and enter the MFA one-time code.

  4. Click Continue.

You'll then be directed into your Marsello account.

📝 Note: If you have access to multiple Marsello accounts, MFA will be your new login process for all of them.

Once logged in to Marsello, to switch accounts:

  1. Click your brand name in the top right-hand corner.

  2. Click Switch accounts.

  3. Select the brand you'd like to open.


How to set up MFA for additional users on a Marsello account

When MFA is enabled on your account, all additional users will automatically receive a set up MFA email in their inbox. This email contains the steps they need to follow to complete their setup.

These users can have Admin, Loyalty Restricted, or Campaigns Restricted permission levels. Please note: their permission levels will remain unchanged—this update only affects their login process, not their level of access within Marsello.

Alternatively, if a user tries to log in to Marsello before checking their email, they’ll be shown on-screen instructions to guide them through the process.


How additional users set up their new login

  1. Open your email inbox.

  2. Log in to your Marsello account using your current login credentials

  3. Click the link to reset your Marsello password.

  4. Click the link to download or open your authenticator app (Auth app).

  5. Scan the QR code using your authenticator app.

  6. Check that your app is generating MFA codes (also known as one-time passwords, PINs, or verification codes).

  7. Enter the one-time code in the Marsello login step.

  8. When ready, click Continue in Marsello.

  9. Enter the authenticator code from your app again.

  10. Click Continue.

If set up correctly, you’ll continue to the Marsello admin

  • If not, you’ll see a “The code you entered is invalid” message.

  4. Click Continue.

You’ll then be logged into your Marsello account.

📝 Note: If the user has access to multiple Marsello accounts, MFA will be your new login process for all of them. For example, if they work for a Marketing agency.

Once logged in to Marsello, they can switch accounts:

  1. Click the brand name in the top right-hand corner.

  2. Click Switch accounts.

  3. Select the brand you'd like to open.​


How to view users & their MFA enablement status

  1. In your Marsello dashboard, go to Settings > Account > Users.

  2. Next to each user, you’ll see a shield icon indicating their MFA status:

    • A green shield means the user has successfully set up MFA.

    • A shield with a line through it means the user has NOT set up MFA.

🔐 Please ensure you follow up with all users who haven’t set up MFA to help protect and secure your Marsello account.

A. If MFA is enabled, it will require all users on the Marsello account to set up MFA on their next log in.

Q. Do I have to enable Multi-Factor Authentication now?
A. While not mandatory yet, we strongly recommend enabling MFA now. It will become a required security feature in Marsello within the next 12 months. Setting it up now is a quick and proactive step toward stronger account security.
