Transitioning from the Online Loyalty Widget to the New Customer Portal

Effortlessly transition from the online widget to the customer portal without disrupting your customers—here’s how.

We're thrilled to introduce our new Customer Portal, designed to elevate your loyalty program experience. This article will guide you through the advantages of making the switch and provide you with step-by-step instructions for a seamless transition

The Customer Portal is now the primary destination for your customers to sign up or log in to their personalized loyalty profiles. Here, they can easily explore ways to earn points, redeem rewards, and access exclusive email discounts tailored just for them.

⚽️ Heads up: Marsello will be transitioning all retailers from the legacy online widget and in-store portal to the new Customer Portal by March 31, 2025. This change aims to enhance user experience, streamline operations, and provide more robust features for your business.


Why Switch to the Customer Portal?

  • More Customization: Personalize the loyalty experience to align with your brand's unique identity.

  • Mobile Phone Optimization: The new portal is designed for mobile devices, providing a seamless experience for customers on the go.

  • New Integrations: Easily integrate with Apple Wallet, allowing customers to access their digital membership card directly from their phones.

  • Access to New Features – Coming soon to Marsello – Create custom earning options and rewards! This empowers you to craft personalized loyalty experiences that resonate with your customers.


Before you get started

Here are some key details to note before switching to the new customer portal:

  • You will need to customize your new Customer Portal to align with your brand settings before setting it live. You can do this from the Customer Portal tab in your Marsello dashboard.


Switch from the legacy Online portal to the new Customer Portal

Once you've customized your Customer Portal and are ready to make the switch, you can do so directly from your Marsello dashboard:

1. Go to the Customer experience tab go to Online > Online portal

2. Under the header Brand your Loyalty Widget & Tab, toggle the on/off button to off. This will disconnect your widget from your eCommerce platform in preparation for the switch.

⚠️ Important: Please note that certain integrations require additional steps to ensure the legacy widget is disconnected successfully:

  • Shopify users

    • After disabling your online portal, select the 'Remove from Shopify' button to eliminate any residual widget code from your online store.

3. Next, you'll need to enable the Customer Portal. To do this go to Customer Experience > Personal Device > Customer Portal.

4. Click Publish Changes

⚠️ Important: This step should be completed after configuring your Customer Portal settings. Be sure to refresh the page after clicking the publish changes button to ensure the updates are live.

5. Click Add to [eCommerce Platform name]: Finally, add the Customer Portal to your

eCommerce platform to activate it.

⚠️ Important: Please note that certain integrations require additional steps to ensure the Customer Portal operates smoothly:

Shopify users

For a smooth integration of the Customer portal, you will need to ensure the online store embed is enabled. To do this:


1. Open your Shopify dashboard and go to Sales channels > Online store > Themes

2. Select customize

3. This will open the themes menu. Click on the three dots to the right of the Refresh button.

​4. Next, click on the App embeds icon.

5. Ensure the Marsello Customer Portal is enabled by confirming the on/off toggle button is switched to on. Click Save.

You will need to re-install the Marsello plugin to complete the setup.
