How do I set up a product review points reward in BigCommerce?

Encourage customers to write product reviews on your eCommerce store to build trust and boost sales.

How do I enable product reviews in BigCommerce?

⚠️ Important: To reward customers points for leaving product reviews, please ensure you have enabled BigCommerce's Product Reviews feature.

1. In your BigCommerce admin, go to Settings > Products > Comments


2. Next to I want to use, select Built-In

πŸ“ Note: Customers will need to enter their email addresses when leaving a review. This will allow Marsello to match the review to the customer and automatically award points.


How do I set the points awarded for product reviews in Marsello?

1. In your Marsello admin go to Loyalty > Points Program > Earning. Under Reviewing a Product, click Edit.

2. Under How many points should your customers earn when they review a product? enter your loyalty points amount, based on how much you value this action.

3. Under The maximum number of product reviews within a certain timeframe that a customer can earn points for:

  • Enter the number of times and the frequency that the customer can earn points for leaving a product review within the specified timeframe.

  • Add The minimum number of characters required for a customer to earn points required in the review before the customer will be rewarded points. This is optional and defaults to 0.

Under 'What's the maximum number of reviews a customer can be rewarded for?', enter the number of reviews and frequency for earning points. Optionally, set the minimum character count required for the review to earn points, defaulted to 0. Click save changes.

4. Click Save changes

5. Back in the main earning points menu, toggle the on/off button for the Reviewing a Product ON.

How does it work for your customers?

On the Marsello loyalty widget, under the Earn tab, the customer will see the ability to earn points for Reviewing a product.


The customer can write a review on the product page and once it is submitted, they will earn points for this action.

On the Marsello loyalty widget, under the Earn Tab, customers can see the option to earn points for 'Reviewing a product.' After submitting a review on the product page, they will earn points.

If a customer chooses to leave an additional review, they will only receive points the number of times you have specified in your settings.

πŸ“ Note: If you have your Earned Points Automation turned on, your customer will also automatically be notified. This automation will let them know how many loyalty points they have earned, their new loyalty points balance, and how many points away they are from their next reward.

With Earned Points Automation enabled, customers will automatically be notified of the points they've earned, their new balance, and how many points remain until their next reward.

How can I track the performance of the product review option?

You can see who has earned points for leaving a product review and when.


1. In your Marsello admin, go to Loyalty > Points Program > Earning. Under Reviewing a product, click the down arrow beside the edit button and then click View reporting.

This will open the insight page. Here you can see:

  • Customers who completed this action

  • The number of points they've earned

  • The date they completed the action
