Add a spend threshold to your reward
✨ A spend threshold is the total amount of an order which must be met in order to redeem a reward, for example:
- $10 off orders over $100
- 20% off orders over $200
Specifying a spend threshold gives you more control over when your customers can use their reward. It also encourages the customer to spend more when redeeming a reward.
📝 Note: This reward type is recommended to be online only. If you want to have it available in-store as well, it requires strict staff training to ensure the sale is over the spend threshold.
How to add a spend threshold to your reward
1. When creating a reward, click on Show Advanced options
2. Under Advanced options, click discount applies to Entire order.
Ensure This discount requires a minimum purchase is also checked and enter the Minimum order total you want the customer to spend to be able to use the reward:
📝 Note: On Shopify stores, a reward can have either a spend threshold OR apply to a specific product/collection. If you add a product or collection to the "Apply to..." fields, you will no longer have to option to add a spend threshold.
💡 Pro Tip: Make sure your reward title clearly states the value of the spend threshold to ensure your customers know the requirements of the reward, e.g. $50 off orders over $150. It's also a great idea to reiterate the spend threshold in your reward's terms.
How it works - your customers' experience
When a customer redeems a reward with a spend threshold, they will need to ensure their order total meets or exceeds the spend threshold.
If the order total does not meet or exceed the threshold, they will receive an error message when trying to apply their discount code.

Once they have added products to their order to meet or exceed the threshold, they can simply return to checkout and the discount code.
