• Switch to Marsello from Another Marketing Platform
  Import your customer points balances from your previous marketing app into Marsello.

  When you connect your POS and/or eCommerce store to Marsello, your customer database will automatically sync into Marsello. To update your customers' points, you'll need to prepare for a Points Import.

  Convert your current Loyalty Program into Marsello Points

  If your existing loyalty settings will match your Marsello earning settings:

  • Here's a couple of examples:
    • IF you have $1 = 1 point
    • THEN in Marsello your Making a purchase earn rule should be set to
      'Earn 1 point for every $1 spend'
      📝 Note: This is the default Making a purchase setting in Marsello
    • IF you have $5 = 1 point
    • THEN in Marsello your Making a purchase earn rule should be set to
      'Earn 1 point for every $5 spend'

  If you have decided to create a new Marsello loyalty program from scratch, then you may need to convert your customers' Vend loyalty balances to match your new earning points rules:

  • For example:
    • IF you have $10 = 1 point, and
    • IN Marsello, your Making a purchase earn rule is 'Earn 1 point for every $1 spend'
    • THEN to convert your customers' existing loyalty amount to Marsello's Loyalty points, you need to multiply the balances by 10 to update their balance to match with your Marsello's points earning rule

  

  Import Your Customer's Existing Points into Marsello

  1. Start a blank spreadsheet with two columns:

  • The First Column should be populated with one of the following identifiers:
    - Email
    - Vend customer ID
    - Shopify customer ID
    - ExportId
    - Mobile
    - VendCustomerCode
  • The Second Column is required to be Points

  2. Enter the unique identifier (for example, the below screenshot is using the Marsello ExportId) of the customers' who you want to tag with your custom tag

  • If you do not wish to add any points, ensure that the points column has 0 next to each identifier.

  

  3. Copy the two columns to your clipboard 

  Import your data into Marsello

  1. In Marsello, go to Customers > All Customers
  2. Click the arrow next to Update customer list
  3. In the drop-down select Import points

  
  4. A pop-up will appear which requires you to select the identifier that you have for each customer, select your unique identifier that you're using to update the tag:

  

  5. Select how you want the points to be added:

  • Add imported points to customers points balance
    • If you have your points column set as 0, no points will be added.
  • Replace customers' current points balances with the imported points balance
    • If you have your points column set as 0, all customers will have their points reset to 0.

  6. Add your custom tag that you wish to include on the customer's profile and for segment purposes:

  
  💡 Quick Tip: Marsello always automatically includes a tag to all imports with the date and time of the import unless you change the text in the box.
  7. Click Upload CSV
  💡 Quick Tip: It's quicker to manually enter your data than it is to use 'Upload data from file'
  8. Drag and drop your CSV file or click Click to upload
  
  9. The importer tool will not import any lines with errors, and will highlight these columns with red:
  
  📝 Note: You can select to only show the rows with problems to make any necessary amendments. Otherwise, the import tool will ignore any columns with errors.

  10. Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up and click Continue.
  📝 Note: If your pasted data contains any errors, a message will appear saying that you have unresolved errors. Click "Prev" to make the adjustments to your CSV file.

  
  11. Click Continue to start importing your data.
  📝 Note: This import may take up to 4 hours, depending on the size of your database.

• Importing your customer database into Marsello

  Import your customers from your previous marketing app into Marsello.
  When you connect your POS and/or eCommerce store to Marsello, your customer database will automatically be synced into Marsello. If you have a customer list that is not in your POS and/or eCommerce store, you will need to get an export of your customer list that includes:

  • First name (required)
  • Last name
  • Email address (required)
  • Mobile (if applicable)
    
    ⚠️ Important:

  • If your customer list is over 1000 customers, it is highly recommended to import this list directly into your POS or eCommerce store instead of into Marsello. Due to API limitations, uploading this list into your POS or eCommerce platform will be a lot faster than uploading this list into Marsello.
  • Please review your customer list to make sure that you are only importing customers who accept marketing from your store.

  Prepare your CSV file ready to import into Marsello

  To ensure that your customer list is successfully imported into Marsello, it is important to update your CSV file format following the below steps:
  
  1. Open your CSV as a spreadsheet
  2. Delete all columns except the following:

  • First Name (values are required)
  • Last Name
  • Email Address (values are required)
  • Mobile

  ⚠️ Important: The customer's first name and email address are required. If these values are missing, the CSV file cannot be imported into Marsello.
  
  3. Update your column heading text to be the following:

  • First Name Column → Firstname
  • Last Name Column → Lastname
  • Email Address Column → Email
  • Mobile Number Column → Mobile

  

  📝 Note:

  • Email & Mobile: Only import valid email addresses and mobile numbers.

  Mobile: When entering please include the customer's country code with no additional characters. Example: +14165550000. If you don't have the customer's mobile number, please leave this blank.
  
  4. Save your file as a .CSV file

  
  💡Quick Tip: To save a file as a .CSV, in the spreadsheet tool, this can often be found under Export to or Download as in the settings menu.

  

  Import your customer database CSV file into Marsello

  1. In your Marsello admin, go to Customers> Actions
  2. In the drop-down, select Import Customers
  📝 Note: The next settings are optional.
  3. OPTIONAL: Next to Give 'Account Creation' loyalty points for new customers you can select the checkbox to award the 'Create an Account' points set under the Loyalty program to all newly created customers (i.e. customers who are created in Marsello via the CSV import).
  4. OPTIONAL: Under Tag any imported customer(s) with the label, you can enter a custom tag name in the text box.
  This will automatically tag the customers' profiles in Marsello with the tag on import.
  💡Quick Tip: If you are importing a specific list from another platform, adding a custom tag will allow you to create a group of segments.
  5. Click Upload file to start the import
  ⚠️ Important: By importing customers you are confirming that any newly added customers accept marketing. Please remove any customers who don't accept marketing from your CSV. before uploading.
  6. Click Upload data from file, then select the CSV file from your computer
  7. Double check if the first row of your spreadsheet has the Column Headers (titles),

  • If the first row does contain Column Headers, click Yes
  • If the first row doesn't contain your Column Headers, click No
    📝 Please note: You may need to re-format your CSV file and upload it again.

  
  8. Double check your Column headers (titles) match Marsello's customer fields
  📝 Note: This is to ensure your customer's details are populated in the correct field in their Marsello profile i.e. the customer's first name is populated in the 'Firstname' field.
  
  9. Review your CSV File. Click the toggle Only show rows with problems to see the customer row(s) that may not be able to be imported into Marsello.
  Common reasons include:

  • The row is blank and doesn't include any details
  • The first name doesn't start with a letter or includes special characters e.g. #$^&
  • The email must contain a valid email address
  • The mobile must start with a + or numbers e.g. +6127123123 or 027123123
  • The CSV file contains over 100,000 customers (100,000 is the maximum number of customers who can be imported at one time)

  
  10. Fix any rows with problems (you can do this within the table in-app)
  11. Click Complete to start importing your CSV file.
  Your CSV File will automatically start to import into Marsello.

  Showcasing specific products in email has gotten easier with the product picker block. Add products to your emails with ease by using the product search feature and selecting the ones for use in your campaign or automation.

  1. Drag and drop a Product Content block into the desired location of your email template. 
  

  2. Double-click into the product content block and select the Add Product button from the content block menu.

  

  3. Enter the name of the product you wish to add via the search button across the top. 

  

  4. Select add for the product you wish to add from the menu.

  

  This will auto populate the primary product image, product name & product URL. Use the content block editor to make any required updates to the product title, description, etc.

  Create an SMS campaign

  1. In the Marsello admin, go to Skills > Campaigns > SMS
  2. Click Create Campaign

  

  ⚠️ Important: If this is your first SMS campaign, you will be prompted to read and confirm that you understand the SMS Marketing Compliance and have made any necessary updates to your store's settings before proceeding. 

  

  3. Enter your SMS Campaign content.
  When creating your SMS campaign, there are a few important things to remember: 

  • Keep it short – SMS Campaigns providers has a strict 160-character limit, so make sure your content is clear and concise, written in plain language. It's also recommended to avoid abbreviations, emoticons, and all caps.
    📝 Note: Your store name, any URLs, and opt-out method are counted towards your 160-character limit.
  • Include your store name – It's important to let your customers know it's you. Include your store's name in your SMS content to help promote customer trust. Common ways to do this include "StoreName:" at the beginning of your content.
  • Add a call-to-action URL – With just 160 characters, you may want to include a link that customers can click to learn more, or go through to your online store. To make things easy, Marsello automatically shortens your URL to be SMS optimized.
  • Opt-out method – Marsello automatically adds "Reply STOP to opt-out" to the end of every SMS sent via Marsello. This is required to comply with SMS laws and regulations, such as TCPA & TCIA.
    📝 Note: This "Reply Stop to opt-out" will ONLY unsubscribe the customer from the SMS communications channel, they will still receive the email marketing if they don't unsubscribe from them via the Unsubscribe link in the email. 

  

  4. Enter your SMS Campaign name

  

  This campaign name is internal only and is to help you identify your campaign in the Campaigns dashboard.
  5. Send a test SMS campaign (optional).

  If you want to preview your SMS campaign before you send it, simply:

  • Click Send Preview
  • Enter your mobile number (including your country code)
  • Click Send Preview

  

  This will send a test of your SMS campaign to your mobile number. 
  6. Click Save & Continue to Recipients

  
  This will automatically save your SMS campaign content ready to send to your customers. 

  

  Choose your audience

  1. Select to send to your entire customer database, or specific customer segment(s)

  

  ⚠️ Important: SMS campaigns will only be sent to customers who are subscribed to your SMS marketing channel, have a valid mobile number (example: +14165550000), and accepts your marketing. Learn more.
  2. Click Save & Continue to Review

  

  Review & send (or schedule) your SMS campaign

  1. Review your settings

  

  2. Review the Estimated credits to send
  This is the estimated number of credits that will be used to send this SMS campaign. Credits are determined based on the customer's location. Learn more.
  ⚠️ Important: If you don't have enough SMS credits you may need to upgrade your SMS Subscription before you can send your SMS Campaign.
  3. Review your SMS Campaign content
  Under SMS Preview, check your SMS campaign content and look carefully for typos before sending your SMS campaign. 
  

  

  4. Choose when to send your SMS campaign

  • Send now – This will queue your SMS campaign to send right away
  • Schedule for later – Choose the date and time in the future that you'd like to send your SMS campaign. 

  

  ⚠️ Important: When scheduling an SMS campaign, you can only schedule it between 8:00a.m. to 6:00p.m in the subscriber's local time. Marsello has put in place safeguards to ensure SMS campaigns cannot be sent to your US customers outside of these times (i.e. during quiet hours) to help with TCPA and associated SMS laws and regulation compliance.
  5. Click Send Now (or Schedule Campaign)
  This will set-up your SMS campaign to send at your desired time and date.

  

  Understanding your SMS campaigns dashboard

  The SMS Campaigns dashboard displays everything you need to know about the success of your loyalty program. With these insights, they will be able to make effective changes and iterations to your email campaign and ultimately sales.

  How it works – Your customers' experience

  When the customer receives the SMS campaign, they'll be able to open it and engage with your content.
  If you've included a call-to-action text link, they'll be able to click through and continue their interaction. 

  

  🤖 Data Insight: 90% of SMS messages are read within 3 minutes.
  If the customer decides they no longer want to receive SMS campaigns from your store, they can reply STOP to the SMS campaign. This will automatically update their Marsello customer profile and remove SMS as an available channel to contact them. 

• How to connect WooCommerce to Marsello
  To use Marsello on WooCommerce, you will need to authorize the connection between Marsello and WooCommerce. This can be done in a few simple steps.

  1. In your Marsello app admin, go to the POS & eCommerce page.
  
  2. While on this page, open the Install the Marsello Widget on your Online Store drop-down button on the page and click on Download Marsello for WooCommerce plugin under step 1. 

  This will download a .zip file called ‘Marsello for WooCommerce’  to your desktop.

  

  3. In your WooCommerce Admin, go to Plugin and click Add New
  

  4. Click Upload
  
  

  5. Drag-and-drop your downloaded Marsello for Woocommerce zip file  

  

  Woocommerce will automatically start to install the Marsello for Woocommerce plugin and display a success screen once complete. 

  6. Click Manage plugin. This will lead you to the ‘Installed Plugins’ page. 

  

  7. Scroll to Marsello for WooCommerce

  📝 Note: You will need to go back to the Marsello admin > WooCommerce integration to get your API key. Click the Copy icon to copy the API Key  .

  10. Back in the Marsello > WooCommerce integration, click Test Connection to ensure that the Marsello for WooCommerce plugin is installed correctly.

• Customers can join your loyalty program online with WooCommerce

  Customers can create an account and join your loyalty program online quickly and easily with WooCommerce.

  📝 Note: Marsello uses WooCommerces’ customer account for a single-sign-on experience for the end customer.

  Your customers' sign-up experience through your loyalty widget

  If you have your loyalty tab visible on your online store, your customers will easily be able to click to see your loyalty program, including ways to earn points & rewards.
  1. Click Create a store account

  

  2.  Enter your email & click Register
  

  This will automatically create the account and you’ll be ‘logged in’. The customer will also receive an email.

  3. Open the email ‘Your {{storename}} account has been created email & click to set a new password.' 
  

  Customers will then be able to log in to their store account & loyalty widget. Customers can update their name, email & marketing opt-in under the Account Details section.
  

  4. Create a new password, and click Save

  

  📝  Note: If you have the Create an Account loyalty earn points option enabled, customers, will also earn loyalty points for this action.

  The customer will then be able to click your loyalty tab and see their loyalty profile.

  

  Your customers' sign-up experience through the online checkout

  Customers can either checkout as an:

  • account holder
  • guest customer

  Account holder

  1. If a brand new shopper checks out, they'll need to select Create an account.
  This will create them a new customer account on WooCommerce and sync the customer across to Marsello. The customer will earn loyalty points.
  📝 Note: when a new customer completes the sale, they will also receive an email confirmation that prompts them to create an account.
  

  Guest customer

  If a brand new shopper checks out without selecting create an account, the customer will not be given a customer account on WooCommerce and will not sync across to Marsello.
  📝  Note: the customer will not earn loyalty points.

  

  

  Your customers' sign up experience through a sign-up form

  Customers can sign up via a Marsello based form; pop-up, landing page or link in bio.
  
  

  1. If you have sign-up form enabled on your online store, customers will need to enter their details to complete the form.

  2. Open the email ‘Your {{storename}} account has been created email & click to set a new password.'
  

  3. Create a new password, and click Save
  

  4. The customer will automatically be created in both Marsello & WooCommerce. 

  

  📝 Note: If you have your Welcome Automation enabled, the customer will receive the emails within the automation, provided they haven't previously purchased from your store.

  

  Customer sign-ups via a 3rd party plugin

  If Marsello is not already integrated with the plugin, you will need to be sure the plugin creates customer accounts in WooCommerce. Once the account is created in WooCommerce, they will generate a new customer account in Marsello as well. 
  
  

  📝 Note: If you have your Welcome Automation enabled, the customer will receive that flow provided they haven't previously purchased from your store.

• Online reward redemption with WooCommerce
  Customers can spend their loyalty points on your rewards and use their unique discount codes at checkout through your WooCommerce store.

  How customers spend points to redeem your rewards

  When a customer has earned enough points, they can spend them to redeem a reward of their choice.
  To redeem a reward and get their unique reward discount code, the customer simply clicks on the reward of their choice, then clicks Redeem.

  

  As soon as a reward is redeemed, the customer's points balance is adjusted, removing the points cost. A unique discount code is generated and displayed, ready for them to use. 

  

  The customer can use their discount code now or save it for later. They can view their unused code at any time in your loyalty widget and if you have your Reward Discount Email turned on, they will be able to find it in their emails as well. Once they use the code, it will be removed from their account. 

  

  How customers redeem unique reward codes online

  When a customer is ready to checkout, they will click through to their cart. To check their rewards, they can click on your loyalty widget.

  

  Here they can copy their unique discount code, which is ready to use at the checkout. 

  

  The customer can then enter their unique discount code into the Coupon Code field on the Cart or Checkout page and click Apply Coupon

  

  The discount will be applied to the sale.

  

  The customer will then proceed to complete the order as normal.  

  

  FAQ

  Does the points cost get taken away from their balance when they redeem a reward?
  Yes, as soon as a reward is redeemed, the customer's points balance is adjusted - removing the points cost even if they don't use the coupon code in that order. This protects your store by preventing customers from redeeming rewards they are not entitled to.
  
  

  Can customers redeem more than one reward at a time?
  Even if a customer has enough points to redeem multiple rewards, they can only use one discount code at a time.  
  
  

  Can a customer redeem their discount code more than once?
  No, discount codes are unique and only available for one-time use.
