Prepare Your Lightspeed Loyalty CSV for Import into Marsello
To ensure that your Lightspeed Loyalty CSV is successfully imported into Marsello, it is important to update your CSV file format following the below steps.

4. Check your Points column amounts
Marsello’s loyalty program operates on a points-based system, while Lightspeed Loyalty is cashback-based.
If you’ve converted your Lightspeed Loyalty settings to Marsello (e.g., updated your ‘Making a Purchase’ earning rule), no further action is needed. Simply proceed to step 6 (Save & Export).
If you're starting a new Marsello loyalty program from scratch, you’ll need to convert your customers' Lightspeed loyalty balances to align with your new points-earning rules.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Review your Lightspeed earning rule.
2. Convert your customers’ balances based on your Marsello earning rule.
For example:
If your Lightspeed rule is $10 = $1 Loyalty and your Marsello rule is 1 point per $1 spent, you’ll need to multiply your customers’ Lightspeed loyalty balances by 10 to align with Marsello’s points system.
3. In your spreadsheet, add a new column next to the "Points" column, and name it "Points."
4. Use a formula to multiply each customer’s points by your new earning rule. For example: =D2*10
(replace D2
with the appropriate cell reference).
5. Copy that formula to the last entry of the spreadsheet.
6. Copy your new Points column and then paste values only on top of the original points column.
7. Delete the 'new' Points column so that you only have the original points column with the new points balances. Your spreadsheet should look similar to this:
8. Save and export your Lightspeed Loyalty list file as a .CSV file
💡Tip: To save a file as a .CSV, in the spreadsheet tool, this can often be found under Export to or Download as in the settings menu.
Import your customer database CSV file into Marsello
1. In your Marsello Admin, go to Customers > Update Customer List
2. In the drop-down, select Import Points
3. Select your points import option:
Add points to customers' existing points balance (recommended)
This will add the points column value to the customers' profiles. E.g. if the points value is 10, it will add 10 points to the customers' account and the customer's points balance will now be 20 points.
Replace customers' current balance with points amount in CSV
This will replace the points column value to the customers' profile. E.g. if the points value is 10, it will replace the customers' current points balance with the new points balance, 10, from the CSV import.
4. Under Tag any imported customer(s) with the label: You can enter a custom tag name (optional). This will automatically tag the customer's profile in Marsello with the custom tag when imported. For example, adding the tag "Lightspeed Loyalty Customer" could help you identify customers who have been migrated from your Lightspeed Loyalty program.
💡Tip: Adding a custom tag will allow you to create this as a group under Segments. 📖 Learn more.
5. Click Upload CSV
⚠️ Important: By importing customers you are confirming that any newly added customers accept marketing. Please remove any customers who don't accept marketing from your CSV. before uploading.
6. You can drop and drag the file or click Click to upload, then select the CSV file from your computer
7. Double-check if the first row of your spreadsheet is the Column Name (titles),
📝Note: You may need to re-format your CSV file and then upload it again.
8. Double-check check your Column names (titles) match Marsello's customer fields
📝 Note: This is to ensure your customer's details are populated in the correct field in their Marsello profile i.e. the customer's first name is populated in the 'Firstname' field.
9. Review your CSV File. Click the toggle Only show rows with problems to see the customer row(s) that may not be able to be imported into Marsello.
Common reasons include:
The row is blank and doesn't include any details
The Points column has cells that cannot be black, if the customer doesn't have a points balance please enter 0 as a value.
The first name doesn't start with a letter or includes special characters e.g. #$^&
The email must contain a valid email address
The mobile must start with a + or numbers e.g. +6127123123 or 027123123
The CSV file contains over 100,000 customers (100,000 is the maximum number of customers who can be imported at one time)
10. Fix any rows with problems
11. Click Continue to and Yes to start importing your CSV file.
Your CSV File will automatically start to import into Marsello.
📝 Note: This import may take 10-20 minutes, depending on the size of your database.
